Conference Reminder: Plenary Extended, Hill Day Meetings Rescheduled, No Onsite Registration


Plenary Extended, Workshops Rescheduled
The Alliance would like to remind conference attendees and speakers that we have extended the plenary on the third and final day of the 2014 National Conference on Ending Homelessness, Thursday, July 31. It is now scheduled to last from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. ET. To make room in the conference schedule for the extended plenary session, we have rescheduled the final workshop session, which will now run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET.
Hill Day Meetings Rescheduled
Additionally, many meetings for the Alliance's Capitol Hill Day event, which the Alliance advocacy team holds in conjunction with the conference, have been rescheduled to take place throughout the conference, though the majority of Hill Day meetings will also now take place between 2 to 5 p.m. ET that Thursday. For additional details, please visit the Advocacy table, located across from the Registration table, during the conference.
No Onsite Registration
Unfortunately, due to overwhelming response, we have had to close registration for the conference early and will be unable to offer onsite registration during the Conference.





House Budget Committee Holds Hearing on Long-Term Budget Outlook
On Wednesday, July 16, the House Budget Committee held a hearing titled "The Long-Term Budget Outlook" to discuss the current state and potential future of the American economy. Chairman Paul Ryan opened the hearing by framing the discussion around the national debt and deficit, possible future job loss, and the sustainability of the country's economic trajectory. In his testimony Doug Elmendorf, director of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), provided an overview of the CBO's recently released report, "The 2014 Long-Term Budget Outlook," and answered questions about the outlook laid out in the report.



On Thursday, July 24, at 2 p.m. ET, the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) will host a webinar designed to educate nonprofit organizations on how they can effectively educate voters and candidates on housing issues for the upcoming midterm elections. During the webinar, "Educating Voters on Housing Issues," speakers will discuss housing as an election issue, the law and general guidelines for remaining nonpartisan as a 501(c)(3), and provide an overview of events and materials that can be used to educate voters and candidates



The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is among the various agencies that appear in a progress report released earlier this month that provides a summary of the 40 major actions President Obama has taken so far this year. The report touches on the Administration's commitment to end veteran homelessness, funding for HUD affordable rental housing projects, low-cost financing to state and local housing finance agencies, and more.
