Alliance Honors New York City and New Orleans for Reducing Veteran Homelessness

In the last three years, 15 of the country's largest metropolitan areas, including New York and New Orleans, have cut their numbers of veterans experiencing homelessness by more than 50 percent. As part of the Alliance's Never Another Homeless Veteran campaign, the Alliance recognized the cities of New York and New Orleans and other communities at our 2014 Annual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 5, for achieving these historic reductions in veteran homelessness.

Congress Returns from Recess
Congress returned to session today, Wednesday, Nov. 12, following recess for the 2014 mid-term elections. Members of Congress are expected to finalize fiscal year (FY) 2015 funding during this lame-duck session, likely before the current continuing resolution (CR), or stopgap funding measure, currently funding the federal government runs out on December 11.

The Alliance has published a recording of the webinar, "Prepare for the 2015 Point-in-Time Count: Unsheltered Count 101," which originally streamed Monday, Nov. 3, at 12 p.m. ET. The webinar, which is available on the Alliance website, where you can also find the speakers' presentations, and the Alliance Youtube channel, covers the basics of how to plan and implement the unsheltered Point-in-Time (PIT) Count. In the video, William Snow of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides guidance on federal regulations, and leaders from the Continuums of Care (CoCs) in Las Vegas and Winston-Salem, N.C., share their most effective unsheltered PIT Count strategies.
With the mid-term elections now behind us, members of the 113th Congress return to Washington, DC today, Nov.12 to begin their lame-duck session. In this post, we ask homeless advocates to join our letter-writing campaign to encourage Congress to include a $301 million increase in homeless funding when it finalizes a Fiscal Year 2015 funding bill.

In this post, we look at some highlights from the Alliance's recent webinar "Prepare for the 2015 Point-in-Time Count: Unsheltered Count 101."
