Alliance Issues Brief on Using ESG Program to Fund Rapid Re-Housing

The Alliance has published the first in a series of briefs that are meant to provide community leaders and rapid re-housing providers information on how to take advantage of federal programs to fund rapid re-housing. Each brief will cover essential information on the funding source, the ways in which providers can use it to support rapid re-housing, and examples of communities that have successfully done so. This first research brief, featuring the Emergency Solutions Grant Program (ESG), focuses on how the ESG program can be used to rapidly re-house single adults, families, and youth.

Congress Returns from Recess
The House and the Senate reconvened from their Thanksgiving recess yesterday. Members of Congress have very few legislative days remaining to finalize funding for fiscal year (FY) 2015 prior to the current continuing resolution ending December 11. Although it remains unclear how Congress will respond to the President's executive action on immigration and whether this will impact the FY 2015 funding process, Congress is expected to make key decisions this week, and it is highly likely that FY 2015 funding will be finalized before members of Congress depart for the winter holidays.

On Tuesday Dec. 9, at 1 p.m. ET, the Alliance will host a webinar on housing identification, a core component of rapid re-housing. The webinar, "Rapid Re-Housing Core Component: Housing Identification" is the first in a webinar series exploring, "Core Components of Rapid Re-Housing," which the Alliance crafted in cooperation with the Departments of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Veterans Affairs (VA), and the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH). Experienced rapid re-housing providers will discuss strategies to recruit landlords and locate housing to quickly end homelessness for families and individuals.
In recognition of the Thanksgiving holiday and last week's National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, this post is devoted to the impact of hunger on the homeless population.

In this Thanksgiving Day post, we express our thanks to the thousands of practitioners and volunteers, who are working on the front lines in the fight to end homelessness, and for the great progress that communities around the country have made this year on veteran homelessness.
