HUD Secretary Julián Castro to Speak at Family and Youth Conference


The Alliance is proud to announce that Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Julián Castro is scheduled to speak at our upcoming 2015 National Conference on Ending Family and Youth Homelessness. Secretary Castro will deliver a keynote address at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina, on the second day of the conference, Friday, Feb. 20, during the luncheon plenary. The event will mark the second occasion Secretary Castro has appeared at an Alliance conference to share his agency's plans and commitment to end homelessness in America.





The Alliance has posted a recording of a webinar that originally streamed on Thursday, Feb. 5, on the impact of the President's fiscal year (FY) 2016 budget proposal on homelessness. In the recording, the Alliance's policy team provides a brief overview of the federal budget and appropriations process and an analysis of the Obama administration's proposed funding levels for key homelessness and affordable housing programs.



The Alliance has posted a report on its website, "Assessment Tools for Allocating Homelessness Assistance: State of the Evidence," which summarizes a discussion by a panel of experts on tools that communities are using to allocate homeless assistance. The Alliance, in partnership with HUD's Office of Policy Development and Research, hosted the expert panel on Nov. 5, 2014. During the discussion, speakers examined the evidence supporting the use of such assessment tools as well as the questions used in the tools.



The Alliance has chosen to delay the debut of its new newsletter design until the week following our upcoming conference. The additional time is meant to allow for the implementation of a mobile responsive design that will produce an optimal viewing experience across a variety of devices. The tentative date for the debut of the new design is now Tuesday, Feb. 24.
