HOMelessness caucus briefing: Invite Your members of Congress today! |
This Thursday, April 28 the Congressional Homelessness Caucus and the Alliance are co-hosting a briefing highlighting the Alliance’s recently released State of Homelessness in America 2016 report and examples of states doing excellent work to end homelessness. We need your help TODAY to ask your congressional offices to send staff to the briefing! Here’s What You Can Do: TODAY email the staff person who handles housing issues for your Representative and Senators letting them know it is important to you that they attend the briefing.
- If you don’t know their email, you can call the congressional switchboard at 877-210-5351 to be connected to their office or ask Jaime or Julie.
- When you send your email, you can include this invitation to the briefing for the details.
- Let us know if a staffer tells you they will attend the briefing.
More Information:
Last week the Senate Appropriations Committee already marked up their fiscal year (FY) 2017 bill, which provided $2.33 billion for McKinney - an $80 million increase over last year’s enacted funding, but $330 million below the Administration’s proposed FY 2017 level. The full Senate could consider the T-HUD bill on the floor as early as this week. The timing of the House T-HUD mark-up is still unclear, but could happen in mid-May. The House typically provides less than the Senate, but this year we need to make sure the House exceeds, or at least matches, the Senate number in their version of the bill. It is important your Members of Congress and their staff attend this briefing to learn what they can do to support the great work that is being done to end homelessness in America!
