EMPLOYMENT OPP: Children's Program Coordinator (Cecil County, MD)
POSITION: Children’s Program Coordinator
SUPERVISOR / REPORTING LINES: Administrator
START DATE: June, 2016 END DATE: June, 2017
COMPENSATION: $1,250.00 / month; cell phone; mileage reimbursement in accordance with a large component of this part-time position is grant-funded; extension or renewal may be possible contingent on procurement of funds.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Coordinator position will have overall responsibility for organizing and implementing the Children’s Program while developing the structure of the program based on the best interest of the children and parents while following the mission and goals of Deep Roots.
This position is responsible for the implementation of Deep Roots’ afterschool program at Clairvaux Farm and the Widening Horizons initiative (monthly events). The Coordinator schedules and supervises the Volunteers involved with the Children’s Program and works closely with the Outreach Committee.
The job may include some on-call requirements during evenings and weekends.
The job requires dedication, flexibility, commitment, team-orientation, passion and a kid-friendly attitude as well as an excellent sense of humor! While actual work hours will be semi-flexible, the position requires 10-20 hours / week of planning, implementing and reporting combined.
RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
• Administrate and implement program; provide three days of programming per week (1 for younger children, 1 for older children, 1 for mixed ages; refine as appropriate given population in residence)
• Develop program to include activities that contribute to the cognitive social, emotional and physical well-being and growth of each participant
• Plan, prep and implement relevant components of Chesapeake Bay Trust grant
• Oversee daily program operations to ensure all kids are participating safely in the program
• Plan, prep and setup for each day; clean up.
• Coordinate transportation as appropriate
• Connect children and youth with appropriate external extracurricular activities (e.g. sports, VBS, arts, etc.) as needed
• Supervise volunteers and assistants
• Recruit volunteers as needed
• Manage assessment and evaluation of kids in the program
• Assist with reporting as required
• Manage budget
• Attend staff meetings
Widening Horizons Initiative (Monthly Events)
• Administrate and implement program in accordance with Chesapeake Bay Trust grant
• Collaborate and implement defined teaching strategies that include critical thinking and civic agency policy. No additional benefits.
• Develop program to include activities that contribute to the cognitive social, emotional and physical well-being and growth of each participant
• Transportation
o Coordinate children and youth transportation; drive agency van
o Pick up kids from homes / drop off kids
• Supervise and schedule volunteers, mentors and assistants
• Manage assessment and evaluation of kids
• Manage budget
• Assist with reporting as required
• Provide key external communications with children, youth and families involved in the Outreach Initiative
• Connect with local schools as needed
REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to create educational, sequential extracurricular plans and implement them; excellent ability to prioritize; and, acute attention to detail for documentation and reporting purposes
• Strong work ethic and passion for the mission of Deep Roots possess a thorough and current knowledge of Deep Roots’ programs, successes and strategies.
• Solid practical and theoretical understanding of the complexities of homelessness for children, youth and families
• Ability to integrate parents, family members and volunteers into existing programming
• Ability to recruit external tutors and resources as appropriate
• Ability to positively represent Deep Roots to the public, churches, organizations and individuals who visit Clairvaux Farm
• Excellent interpersonal relationship and leadership skills with groups of diverse backgrounds and experiences and ages
• Superb sense of discretion and ability to maintain confidences
• Ability to maintain a positive, cooperative and professional attitude in interactions with other volunteers, staff and residents
• At least five years of professional experience working with children
• Experience creating programming and curriculum for ages 3-18
• First Aid/CPR trained for children and infants (or obtains qualification within 3 months of starting)
• Clear Background check
• Preferred but not required: Degree in Education/Teaching or Child/Youth Development
Other organizational requirements require a successful background check, including fingerprinting, an annual TB screen, Hepatitis A vaccination and the ability the meet physical requirements of the position.
