Consumer Advisory Board: Correction and Extended Application Deadline
Correction: Last week’s newsletter incorrectly read that The Alliance is seeking applicants for our "Consumer Advocacy Board", which should have read "Consumer Advisory Board."

The Eric Jungels Consumer Advisory Board will consist of members who have experienced or are currently experiencing homelessness to inform the work of the Alliance and serve in an advocacy capacity, both at the federal level and in their local communities.

If you know someone who has experienced or is currently experiencing homelessness that would be interested in serving on the board, please share the application with them. The application deadline has been extended to NEXT Wednesday, June 15.

House republicans release poverty proposal
On Tuesday, June 7, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) released an anti-poverty agenda, “A Better Way: Our Vision for a Confident America.” This set of proposals is largely focused on what the authors regard as flaws in existing federal programs for low-income people.

There were no specific legislative proposals. There were, however, some general ideas for improvement, including using rental vouchers for low-income families to move to areas with better schools and jobs, juvenile justice reform to reduce incarceration, and fast-tracking education for low-income students.

Defining what it means to end chronic homelessness – we now have a clear goal
by Jayme Day

Today, we are excited to share that the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness and its 19 federal member agencies released criteria and a benchmark that define what ending chronic homelessness should look like. Being at a point where we are able to define what it means to end chronic homelessness is exciting — it means we have made significant strides and now need to plan an end game.
