Homelessness decreases in Maryland
On a single night in 2016, 549,928 people experienced homelessness in the United States, according to the recently released U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development report. This marks a 2.6 percent decrease from last year, largely due to increases in permanent housing options rather than temporary placements.

Apply Now for the Transatlantic Practice Exchange
Applications are now open for the 2017 Transatlantic Practice Exchange, and are due on Monday, December 18, 2017. The Exchange is an opportunity for five homeless service providers to spend up to two weeks researching responses to homelessness in the UK. The Exchange is a partnership between the Alliance, Homeless Link, and the Oak Foundation.

ENHANCED PROTECTIONS FOR SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has published the final rule implementing housing protections under the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (VAWA). It guarantees core protections across HUD programs to ensure that no one is denied assistance, evicted, or has their assistance terminated because of their status as a victim of domestic violence. The 2013 VAWA legislation and resulting final rule go into effect December 16.

Take Rapid Re-housing Practice to the Next Level

Communities around the country are implementing extremely successful rapid re-housing practice for a wide range of populations experiencing homelessness. As communities are investing more in rapid re-housing, several have taken rapid re-housing practice to the next level. While practice is improving, especially in communities with experienced providers, many communities and programs still need to standardize their practice.

Insights on Homelessness from Across the Pond
