The Campaign for Housing and Community Development Funding (CHCDF) is collecting stories to include in a national report on the positive impacts created by federal affordable housing programs to share with Members of Congress early on in 2017. The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) is spearheading this effort, and hopes to feature a wide range of success stories to demonstrate how programs have helped low-income people.
We need to make sure this report highlights inspiring stories demonstrating how programs funded by HUD’s McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants are ending homelessness for people in communities across the country! We’re calling on YOU - state and local organizations, as well as individuals, to submit a success story to be included in this publication.
Here’s What You Can Do:
1. See the “Success Story Narrative” section here for suggestions on what you want to include in your success story.
- If your organization serves people in more than one congressional district, see this list to highlight a story of a family or individual served in the district of a target Member of Congress.
2. Write your story, demonstrating how McKinney-funded rapid re-housing or permanent supportive housing ended homelessness for a client or yourself or how a McKinney-funded project has helped your community.
3. Fill out this survey and submit your story by Thursday, December 15! Please only submit one success story per organization.
4. Let us know that you submitted a story! Email the story to Julie at jklein@naeh.org.

It is likely that Congress will pass a continuing resolution (CR), continuing to fund most government programs at fiscal year (FY) 2016 levels until the spring of 2017. As such, we will need to keep up our drumbeat of advocacy to secure at least a $200 million increase for McKinney-Vento in FY 2017 much longer than we anticipated! Further, we will have many new Members of Congress and a new Administration to educate about the issue of homelessness and effectiveness of McKinney-funded programs at ending it. Submitting a success story for publication in this report is a great first step toward doing so!
