TELL YOUR SENATORS TO PROTECT MEDICAID |
The Senate is making a final push to repeal the Affordable Care Act. This latest proposal makes huge cuts to Medicaid and fundamentally restructures the program.
Medicaid is essential to the fight to end homelessness. It enables people experiencing homelessness to treat physical and mental health needs, and it pays for permanent supportive housing services. It also prevents people in poverty from experiencing medical or financial crises which may lead to homelessness.
The next week will be crucial to protecting these resources. The Senate only has until September 30th to pass this bill, and it will only take 3 additional Senators to reject these cuts. Your calls can make the difference. Together, we can send a message that your Senator needs to:
- Vote NO on any healthcare bill that cuts, caps, or block grants Medicaid, or phases out the Medicaid expansion in any way.
- Commit to protecting coverage guarantees and service affordability for people escaping homelessness, including services for people with severe health or mental health conditions, and those recovering from substance abuse disorders.

NEW TOOLS AND RESOURCES FOR ENDING YOUTH HOMELESSNESS |
RRH for Youth Webinar: The next online meeting of the Rapid Re-Housing for Youth Learning Community will take place Thursday, September 28th at 2:00pm EDT. Expert youth RRH providers will discuss the challenges and rewards of implementing Housing First and harm reduction for young people. Register now!
New Tools: Ending youth homelessness requires the perspectives of young people who have lived the experience. That’s why the Alliance partnered with True Colors Fund (TCF) to sponsor the National Youth Forum on Homelessness (NYFH). TCF and NYFH have launched a new Youth Collaboration Toolkit to help communities create more effective partnerships with young people to end youth homelessness. (You can learn about implementing the toolkit at the 40 to None Summit in Philly next month. There’s still time to register!)
New Communities: The most recent 100-Day Challenges to End Youth Homelessness provided a great example of the power of partnering with young people. Our partners at Rapid Results Institute and A Way Home America have announced the new wave of 100-Day Challenge communities. Congratulations Sioux Falls (SD), Gulfport (MS), Marion County (OR), Mendocino County (CA), and Franklin (ME)! |

NEW REPORT SHOWCASES THE POWER OF TRANSATLANTIC EXCHANGE |
The exchange of knowledge and practice is essential for communities working to end homelessness. But the opportunities for learning exist beyond our nation's borders.
The newly-released Transatlantic Practice Exchange 2017 report brings together learnings and reflections from professionals in US and UK homeless services, who spent up to two weeks hosted in each other's countries.
The Exchange plays an invaluable role for participants, hosts, and their communities in the effort to end homelessness in the US. We extend our gratitude to the Oak Foundation and our partners at Homeless Link for making it possible for the Exchange to better inform improvement in homeless systems and practices.
