Funding   |    Resources   |    Events SAMHSA Reaffirms Efforts To Address the Public Health Emergency on the Opioid Crisis President Donald Trump recently declared the opioid crisis a public health emergency and announced new action to help. This action reaffirms the role of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and SAMHSA as leaders in supporting evidence-based programs in prevention and providing treatment and recovery services to the 11 million Americans affected by the opioid crisis. HHS is implementing five specific strategies that are guiding SAMHSA's response. Funding HHS, SAMHSA To Maintain Funding Formula for $1 Billion Opioid Grant Program HHS and SAMHSA will maintain the grant funding allocation formula for the second year of the Opioid State Targeted Response program. This program is a significant component of the Trump Administration's efforts to combat the nation's opioid crisis and is critical for achieving the President's goals of supporting a comprehensive array of evidence-based prevention, treatment, and recovery services. Resources Serious Mental Illness Report on Full Continuum of Psychiatric Care SAMHSA recently commissioned a report that examined the need for addressing serious mental illness with the same emphasis as other chronic medical conditions. The report, Beyond Beds: The Vital Role of a Full Continuum of Psychiatric Care, was issued jointly by the National Association of Mental Health Program Directors and the Treatment Advocacy Center. Events Monday, November 6, 2017 | 3–4 p.m. Eastern Time Upcoming Webinar: Strategies To Finance IECMHC This webinar, presented by SAMHSA's Center of Excellence for Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (IECMHC), will showcase the Financing Guidance for IECMHC in the Center of Excellence Toolbox's Financing Section. The webinar presenters will share how they have created successful and sustained funding streams for IECMHC, including a discussion about developing a funding strategy and examples of IECMHC funding resources and pathways. November 13–15 HRSA Twitter Chat The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) will spotlight rural health with a Twitter Relay on November 13–15. The Relay will be a series of three consecutive Twitter chats, over 3 days at 3 p.m. Eastern Time, that will discuss the state of rural health in our nation today. Chats will focus on the rural health workforce, social determinants of health, and behavioral health. The National Health Service Corps, Office of Women's Health, and several other HHS components will be responding to questions around rural health challenges and successes. The webinar will identify ways that oral health and behavioral health professionals and safety net health care systems can integrate oral health into the care of patients with substance use disorders.
