This week: WEBINAR EXPLORES THE CONNECTION BETWEEN HOMELESSNESS AND THE OPIOID CRISIS There's still time to register for tomorrow's webinar to examine how resources to address the opioid crisis can be leveraged for people experiencing homelessness (January 11, from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM EST). Federal and local officials will discuss what's happening around the country to address the crisis, highlighting a successful housing program for people with OUD. There will also be a discussion about how service providers can connect with state agencies to elevate issues related to homelessness to the forefront of the opioid crisis.  Register here >> New report Warns Against cutting federal housing assistance A new report from the Urban Institute explores the current landscape of federal housing assistance. The authors find that only one in five eligible households currently receive housing assistance, and that cutting funding would have dire consequences. Recently discussed budget cuts would decrease funds available for the creation and preservation of affordable housing, reduce the amount of assistance available, and undermine support for those currently receiving assistance. The authors maintain that instead of cuts, Congress should expand federal housing assistance programs to continue progress in ending homelessness.
