New report Warns Against cutting federal housing assistance |
A new report from the Urban Institute explores the current landscape of federal housing assistance. The authors find that only one in five eligible households currently receive housing assistance, and that cutting funding would have dire consequences. Recently discussed budget cuts would decrease funds available for the creation and preservation of affordable housing, reduce the amount of assistance available, and undermine support for those currently receiving assistance. The authors maintain that instead of cuts, Congress should expand federal housing assistance programs to continue progress in ending homelessness. |
