  
SAMHSA is accepting  applications for its Assertive Community Treatment grants. The grants will be  used to improve behavioral health outcomes by reducing the rates of  hospitalization and death for people with a serious mental illness (SMI).  SAMHSA expects that the program will also reduce the rates of substance use,  homelessness, and involvement with the criminal justice system among people with  SMI.

SAMHSA  is accepting applications for the National Center of Excellence for  Tobacco-Free Recovery (Short Title: National Center-TFR) grant program totaling  up to $5 million over the next 5 years. The purpose of this program is to  establish a national center with specialized subject matter expertise to  provide training and technical assistance to states, local governments, tribal  communities, behavioral health organizations, primary care providers,  clinicians, peers, families, and other stakeholders to help reduce tobacco use  among persons with behavioral health disorders, with an emphasis on individuals  with serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders.

SAMHSA, together  with Massachusetts General Hospital's Recovery Research Institute, is offering  a webcast series. The four-part series educates health care professionals about  the importance of using approaches that are free of discriminatory attitudes and  behaviors in treating individuals with substance use disorders and related  conditions. The webinar on April 26 will discuss why addiction is a disease and  why it is important.

The upcoming webinar  in this series will consider how Wellness Recovery Action Plan tools for  crisis and pre-crisis planning can promote engagement and positive  relationships between individuals and service providers. The final webinar in  the series on May 23, 2018, will discuss social media and other technology as  emerging tools for outreach and engagement in behavioral healthcare.
