Wonder Women to the Rescue

To raise the visibility of women in affordable housing and the significant contributions they make, Affordable Housing Finance is highlighting 10 leading women in our field who are making a real difference. We are proud to note one of them is CSH President and CEO, Deb De Santis. Deb is a real champion for supportive housing across the country. In the Affordable Housing Finance piece, she spells out some of her priorities under the new CSH Strategic Plan for 2019-2021. As part of this forward-thinking Plan, CSH is raising the importance of working across multiple, integrated systems to increase access to affordable housing and services.

A new feature for attendees at CSH Summit 2019 offers interaction with peers and concrete strategies and tools to implement in your community. Navigate the SIPPRA NOFA with CSH

The federal Social Impact Partnerships to Pay for Results Act (SIPPRA) aims to support outcomes-based financing and provide funding for social impact partnerships, including pay for success (PFS) projects. The Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for SIPPRA has now been released and CSH can help you navigate it. CSH understands PFS at every stage. In over twenty communities nationwide, CSH has been leading the way in structuring innovative financing like PFS to promote the creation of supportive housing. We work directly with government stakeholders, practitioners, and thought leaders to ensure PFS projects are sound and successful. Click here to join our free webinar on March 13 at 1:00PM ET to learn more about SIPPRA, supportive housing and planning your successful NOFA application.

Supportive Housing Focus in Detroit

CSH is actively involved in championing the creation of supportive housing in the City of Detroit. Yesterday, Mayor Mike Duggan of Detroit delivered his State of the City Address and spoke extensively about his goal to expand supportive housing opportunities. The Mayor spent the last several minutes of his speech focused on how Detroit is transitioning from managing homelessness in shelters to ending it by ensuring people have permanent homes in supportive housing. You can follow the Mayor's remarks by clicking here. The section on supportive housing starts at minute 52. The Mayor also highlighted a supportive housing resident in Detroit, Pam Hart, especially her success helping others access supportive housing.

Streamlining Resources in California

Consolidating and streamlining housing and service resources through a Flexible Housing Program is the goal of the CSH supported Assembly Bill introduced by Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva in California. Frank Ybarra, CSH Speak Up advocate, stood alongside Assemblyman Quirk-Silva and shared his personal journey from homelessness to thriving in and advocating for supportive housing. Sharon Rapport, CSH Associate Director of Policy in California noted that this program offers "what Californians experiencing homelessness need and want: a decent, safe, affordable place to call home."

SD Community Employment Connections

San Diego government agencies, services providers and social enterprises recently came together to discuss improving employment opportunities within the county for people eligible for, or residing in, supportive housing. A Community Gathering co-hosted by CSH and Heartland Alliance identified the overall employment need, and looked to several local social enterprises as successful models for employing people facing complex challenges while striving to build better lives. The Gathering has become the impetus for a larger community-wide planning effort for services like workforce development that can help people thrive in and beyond supportive housing.

A Bridge to Long Term Recovery

The SUPPORT ACT of 2018 (Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities) is bringing new, abundant resources to community leaders addressing the opioid crisis. CSH touched on resources available through the SUPPORT Act, Medicaid and local sources in our Addiction 101 webinar, The Systems of Addiction Services. Click here to listen to the webinar and download our companion brief: A Bridge to Long Term Recovery: Building Meaningful Collaboration Recovery Support Services & Low Income Housing Sector, detailing options for communities to create and/or strengthen much-needed collaboration between the housing and substance use treatment sectors.

Health Centers & Responses to Opioid Crisis

CSH & National Health Care for the Homeless Council are co-sponsoring a free webinar on March 15 at 2:00 PM ET to provide an overview of how states and Managed Care Organizations are responding to the opioid crisis, and the role health centers play as a critical partner in this effort. Attendees will learn what Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island are doing to leverage resources from the SUPPORT Act of 2018, and hear from CareSource, a multi-state Medicaid Managed Care Organization, about their strategies and on-going approach to addressing opioid addiction. Leadership and policy staff at Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), Primary Care Associations and Health Center lookalikes will benefit from attending this free webinar.
