SAMHSA is accepting applications for the Expansion of Practitioner Training (Prac-Ed) grant. The purpose of this program is to expand the integration of substance use disorder (SUD) education into the standard curriculum of relevant healthcare and health services education programs. By mainstreaming this education, the ultimate goal is to expand the number of practitioners to deliver high-quality, evidence-based SUD treatment. 2017 data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) indicates that an unacceptably high 92% of individuals who meet the criteria for needing SUD treatment do not receive it. SAMHSA is beginning the implementation of this program as one of the many steps to reduce barriers to accessing and providing care.
SAMHSA plans to issue 10 grants of up to $250,000 per year for up to 2 years.
