State agencies, continuums of care, non-profits, and other human services programs all have an obligation to safeguard the people they serve against abuse, neglect, and exploitation. If you are looking for ways to protect your clients, these five steps can help you develop an effective critical incident management system and reduce the risk of liability for your program.
These principles are based on guidance from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. While they were originally developed for state Medicaid waiver programs, many of these steps apply to any human services agency that wants to eliminate such incidents from their program, and to partner with other organizations to make their communities safer.
